I am passionate about finding solutions to problems with a common sense approach, and it will be my goal to accomplish results for our district and state. I approach issues with an open mind and seek solutions that are in the best interests of all of us - not what is best for any political party or election campaign.
We face very difficult problems in this state. These problems need thoughtful, bi-partisan solutions:
- Assuring state government works effectively & efficiently:
Since 2000 our state budget has grown over 33%, yet our state's revenue, which is generated 100% through Washington's private sector businesses and taxpayers, has difficulty in keeping up this spending pace. We need to work to produce a balanced state budget while holding the line on taxes in order for our economy to grow.
- Creating a twenty-first century transportation and roads system:
Having new neighbors and businesses come into our community, it is obvious how desperately in need we are of roads and transit. Growth brings out emotions for all of us but let's face it, our road system reached its maximum capacity 10 years ago. We need to come up with viable solutions to solve our congestion problems so that we can get kids to school on time, get to work on time, save dollars spent on gas and get our goods delivered.
- Helping to educate and train Washington State’s next generation:
Washington's future lies in the hands of our youth…they are the next generation of technicians, small business owners, doctors and community doers. Yet, if we fail to properly provide them the tools to be competitive in today's global marketplace, we have failed. We need to return to local control where parents, teachers and administrators are united on teaching the students.
- Affordable health care:
I worked in medical administration for 20 years and this is a subject I am passionate about. People must have health care. We need to address the rising cost of health care so that we may find viable solutions for those who are underinsured or not insured at all. We need to support a system that empowers patients, allowing them to choose the insurance carrier, types of coverage and/or physicians who will best serve them.
These are a few of the issues that have inspired me to run for the State Senate. I hope that you will join me by becoming a part of the Becker team to help change the attitudes in Olympia and make it a more effective and efficient partner for the citizens of our state. Thank you for giving me the courage to run and I hope that you will join me and you will encourage others to join us. We are in this together!
