ABOUT RANDI BECKER
Randi Becker is a third generation Washingtonian, who recently retired as a medical administrator after running a surgical center in Puyallup.
My husband and I live near Eatonville. We are taxpayers, property owners and supporters of the 2nd Ammendment. I'm looking forward to bringing new energy and new perspectives to the State Senate. People who work for a living need a voice in our state government.
I have worked in the medical community on the need to eliminate frivolous lawsuits and malpractice laws that only benefit trial lawyers.
My grandfather emigrated from Sweden. He settled in Chicago, started a successful bakery, but felt the pull to Puyallup, Washington. He believed in this country and the opportunities offered for one willing to work. He started the first bus line to Mt Rainier, had gold mine rights in Montana and owned various other lands. He always believed in the United States of America and passed his beliefs and values on to us.
I grew up in Enumclaw on a dairy farm. I belonged to 4-H, both cow and horse, and the 4-H leadership program. I also belonged to the Art Club, lettered in sports, was presented with an art scholarship from high school to WSU between junior and senior year, earned the title of homecoming princess and served as Worthy Advisor in Rainbow.
I attended both Green River Community College and Highline Community College.
Work history
* Stewardess for over eight years.
* Realtor in Puyallup, Graham, Spanaway areas for over three years.
* Medical field, receptionist, billing, office manager to Administrator.
As a stewardess, I lived in Washington DC for 13 months flying all over the United States. I met many people in all walks of life, including senators and congressmen.
As a realtor in Pierce County, I listed and sold real estate for over three years. I found it exciting to watch people when they "found their house." The most exciting part was the negotiation of an agreement so that it worked for both the seller and the purchaser.
I started working in the medical field as a receptionist and worked my way up to manager of a multi-million dollar surgical center. Along the way, I helped develop an Obesity Surgical Practice in the Auburn area. I also worked for Good Samaritan Hospital, where I started several hospital-owned clinics, including the Urgent Care Center.
My responsibilities included: designing to occupancy our new medical office, working side by side with doctors in the development, licensing, contracting, hiring and setting up the Ambulatory Surgery Center. I developed the budget for the company, developed systems to monitor the profitability, negotiated contracts with insurance carriers and worked hand-in-hand with the doctors to develop a very worthwhile company.
My husband, Bob, is an Air Force Veteran. We have been married and living in Pierce County for 34 years: in Edgewood for seven, in Spanaway for 20, and in Eatonville for seven. We bought 20 acres outside of Eatonville, built our home and have continued to enjoy our horses, beef cattle and of course our dog and cat! Bob has worked in trucking and has been a Teamster member, local 174 and 313 for 38 years. We enjoy fishing, hunting and working in our yard together.
We have two grown daughters: Reena living in Puyallup and working in Lakewood as a certified coding specialist, and Rhyan living and working as a college recruiter in Portland. We are excited that we have one grandson!
My daughter showed A system Appaloosa for one year and I started judging as an apprentice judge for 4-H, schooling shows in the area.
My interests: Outdoors, I enjoy fishing, horseback riding, hunting, gardening and working on my yard. Indoors, I LOVE to read, work with stained glass, paint, and enjoy the company of friends.
Things that are important to me as a person: I do not believe in lying, cheating or stealing. My life goal is to be an honest, respectful and caring person.
I realized that I have the ability to facilitate mutually workable solutions. I learned that listening is the most important part of leadership, along with acting on issues in a timely manner.
While working, my personal goal is always to help others be successful, sharing encouragement and tools to move forward.
